Ableton
I use Ableton for recording, creating and mixing. The design is very intuitive as you can decide to work in a top-down view (session view). Unlike traditional sequencing programs where everything happens along a fixed song timeline, you can record and stack ideas in a way that feels instinctive. This also means that it is perfect for performing live, especially with its physical counterpart - the Ableton Push.
Reaper
I use Reaper for most of my post-production. The software takes a bit longer to get used to because it is a much more powerful tool. It harbours some amazing quality native plugins. It also processes video tracks very well, making it perfect for working to picture. Best of all it is free!
